Nick Blankenburg ‘16 & Steven Morris ‘16: Finishing their season with a record of 22-2-1, the Romeo hockey team added to that with a 5-2 win over number 11 ranked in Division 1 Lake Orion.
Stepping up for the Bulldogs, Brett Lanski ‘17 scored two big goals. Nick Blankenburg ‘16, Logan Jenuwine ‘16, and Luke Kaczor ‘16 all contributed one goal.
Nolan Kare ‘17 got his 25th start of the season and his 22nd win, the most wins in the state of Michigan for a high school goalie.
With that being said, the hockey team is not satisfied yet, they’re looking for something more, a state championship.
Starting their quest for a state championship on Wednesday March 2nd, the Bulldogs take on the winner of Lapeer and Davison, who play today, Monday February 29th.
No matter the outcome of the game, the boys play in Lapeer at the Polar Ice Arena.
Reaching for Glory, the Bulldogs look to take the program and team to the next level. After losing in the State Quarterfinals last year, the Bulldogs have a chip on their shoulder from last year and look to prove to the state of Michigan that they are a team of destiny.
Projected to lose in the State Championship to Hartland according to the State Champs Sports Network, this only serves as motivation for the Bulldogs. “Hartland avenges a loss to Stevenson in the 2013 State Finals, and we are treated to an epic final game between Hartland and Romeo, with the Eagles winning an instant classic,” according to State Champs.
Earlier this season, Hartland and Romeo tied 1-1 in overtime.
The hardest part has yet to come though, projections do not mean anything, it’s all in the varsity hockey teams hands.
They have the pen, they’re ready to write their story and leave there mark, what are they gonna write with it?
